East Neuk of Fife

My girlfriend’s main Christmas present to me this year was a trip up to Fife for a couple of nights in Anstruther at the Waterfront Hotel before we both have to go back to work.

It’s one of my favourite parts of the country, with a long family connection. My dad used to have his holidays as a boy just up the road in Crail.

Unfortunately the trip coincided with a huge storm so the planned walk from Anstruther to Crail along the coast was decided against. Instead we drove to Crail for a wander in the wind before heading further up the coast for lunch in St Andrews. Not before we took a walk on the harbour wall in Anstruther to watch the waves crashing over the lighthouse!

On the second day we thought we were too late getting up to make breakfast at the hotel. Instead the lovely people at the Waterfront in Anstruther decided we couldn’t leave on an empty stomach and made us a fry up, in fact they insisted!

On the way back to Edinburgh we stopped for a walk round Pittenweem harbour. A lovely little town it was deserted on the first Saturday morning in January. Lovely and calm though following the storm of the previous day.
